Mastercard and Liverpool City Council announce City Possible partnership

The two parties will collaborate on ways to serve residents and visitors

Building on its experience in working with cities across Australia and beyond, Mastercard has today signed an agreement with Liverpool City Council aiming to collaborate via Mastercard’s City Possible  program. As part of the agreement, Liverpool City Council and Mastercard will research, develop and potentially implement new solutions for addressing the challenges of this growing city. Through the City Possible network, Liverpool will also get access to best practices and learnings from cities around the world.

“We’re extremely excited to be working with Mastercard on City Possible and look forward to working together on ways to encourage people to stay in the city for longer,” said Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller.

“As a Council, we place a high value on working smarter to create a better city. The establishment of Western Sydney Airport wholly within our Local Government Area is bringing with it an unprecedented boom.”

“We need to be innovative to ensure Liverpool is a great place to live and work, for the people here already and for the people who will make it their home in coming years.”

“Liverpool is working strategically to build a vibrant city with an 18-hour economy, and we recognize that collaborative partnerships such as the one we are about to enter into with Mastercard offer us opportunities to deliver on that promise,” Waller said.

“By 2050, more than 70% of the world’s population are expected to reside in urban areas. With this growth comes challenges that are shared by cities everywhere – such as addressing ageing infrastructure and providing economic opportunities – all the while running against tighter municipal budgets,” said Miguel Gamiño Jr., Executive Vice President & Head of Global Cities, Mastercard.
