Mastercard has announced the opening of a representative office in Uzbekistan

June 27, 2023 | Uzbekistan
  • Mastercard payment system is preparing to open the first official representative office in Uzbekistan.

The launch of the new office was announced at the annual conference of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Samarkand. One of the largest international payment operators plans to deepen its relations with local partners and to get to know local needs better.

Dimi Dosis, Mastercard's President for the EEMEA region, stressed the importance of working together with the public sector, the Ministry of Digital Technology of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Central Bank to increase access to the company's technologies.

"The opening of an official representative office will allow us to better understand the needs on the ground. We will work even harder, offering the most up-to-date digital technology solutions," said Mastercard Regional President Dimi Dosis.

The opening of Mastercard’s first official representative office in Uzbekistan, where professionals from Uzbekistan will be able to work, is also an important part of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Staying true to its policy of expanding cooperation with Uzbekistan, Mastercard signed the agreement during the event:

  • Memorandum of Understanding between the EBRD and Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth;
  • Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation with Xalq Bank and Mikrokreditbank.

Earlier in 2022, Mastercard signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Finance, and a memorandum with the Central Bank of Uzbekistan on DCP (Digital Country Partnership).

As the flagship sponsor of the event, Mastercard supported the global agenda for large-scale digitalization, noting the need to involve small and medium-sized businesses in the digital economy.

Mastercard will work to improve digital and financial literacy of entrepreneurs in Uzbekistan, as well as provide access to electronic payments and other e-commerce tools, and support startups. Mastercard will launch an e-commerce school for SME that will help entrepreneurs create, develop and expand their businesses online. SME will receive free support and assistance, as well as business acceleration.

An important factor that will be a starting point for cultural integration between Mastercard and Uzbekistan is the initiative to include Samarkand in the "Priceless Cities" program, voiced by the President of Mastercard for the EEMEA region. The program implies comprehensive promotion of the city to cardholders worldwide as a tourist destination, allowing them to get priceless impressions, see priceless monuments, museums and experience the beauty of the country.
