Mastercard strengthens leadership team to accelerate growth across Sub-Saharan Francophone Africa

January 17, 2023 | MENA West

January 17, 2023: Mastercard has announced the appointment of Jean-Charles Yallet as Country Lead of its Sub-Saharan Francophone Africa (FSSA) operations across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) West cluster. In his role, he is responsible for driving the dynamic market development and innovation across this region, which now encompasses 17 countries, as well as continuing to promote financial and digital inclusion for these communities.

Jean-Charles joins Mastercard with over 22 years in various international banking institutions. Previously, he was the executive director of private banking at Standard Chartered Bank, head of corporate banking at United Bank for Africa, and trade risk specialist at Bank of America in London, UK.

Mohamed Benomar, Country General Manager, MENA West, Mastercard, said: “These are exciting times across FSSA as we increase our network and operations, introducing innovative products and services, to welcome more people into the digital economy. It is a pleasure to welcome someone with Jean-Charles’s vast industry experience. With his extensive knowledge and expertise, he will play an integral role in promoting Mastercard’s transformation initiatives in the digital and payments space.”

Jean-Charles Yallet, FSSA Country Lead, MENA West, Mastercard, said: “I am delighted to join Mastercard at this exciting time as we continue to innovate and use our network reach to digitize the payment landscape, bringing more people into the financial ecosystem. I am determined to build on the great work already done as part of our ongoing commitment to make transactions simpler, more secure, and seamless across the region.”

The appointment follows a series of leadership changes after Mastercard’s announcement earlier this year that saw the expansion of Mastercard’s EEMEA (Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region to include 81 of the 210 markets where Mastercard operates globally.

Mastercard has been at the forefront of digital transformation and payment technology innovation across the diverse MENA region. The appointments strengthen Mastercard’s commitment to driving financial inclusion, supporting a world beyond cash, and investing resources in key markets.

Jean-Charles holds an MBA in Finance and Business Strategy from Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom.
