BNP Paribas Personal Finance and Mastercard are bringing together their areas of expertise to launch the Cpay card that has replaced the former Cetelem card in France since mid-March 2019. This new Mastercard card is linked to a revolving credit and offers multiple payments options built by Cetelem, the commercial brand of BNP Paribas Personal Finance, N°1 in retail financing in France and in Europe. The Cpay card is both a universal Mastercard card and a privative Aurore card.

A next generation card tailored to the expectations of French consumers in terms of credit and daily payments.

The new Cpay card allows payments and withdrawals both in France and abroad, whether on debit or credit. It is the first card to offer as much flexibility for budget control (payments in three, five, ten or twenty installments in the Aurore and Mastercard networks, the feature being on the card, not on the merchant’s). The CPay card is contactless and will be accessible for mobile payment very shortly.

These payments options are tailor-made and customized, as is the associated credit which is totally in linewith the expectations of Cetelem’s trusted millions of clients in France who are attentive to running their budgets responsibly.

The Cpay card was developed and enriched thanks to similar experiments in Spain and Portugal. BNP Paribas Personal Finance, convinced by the significant benefits of this new offer, has chosen to replace its entire fleet of cards with the new Mastercard Cpay card: over 4 million cards will be delivered to BNP Paribas Personal Finance France’s customers by the end of the year throughout its network! This large-scale project is one of the biggest migrations of cards ever undertaken in France and is a real logistical and technological challenge.

We’ve combined renewable credit with regular use and given much more flexibility to customers in managing their everyday purchases, whether for outright purchases or installments,’ explains Laurent David, Chief Executive Officer of BNP Paribas Personal Finance.

Mastercard, a trustworthy innovation partner for BNP Paribas Personal Finance France

This partnership represents a real investment for both parties as BNP Paribas Personal Finance France is replacing its entire fleet of cards. It demonstrates BNP Paribas’ willingness to pair up with a trustworthy technological partner for years to come.
Focusing on greater ease of use, new features and added security, Mastercard is also helping BNP Paribas Personal Finance France enhance its services with additional features such as:

    • Mastercard® In Control solution, which enable Cpay cardholders configure where, when and how they use their card, hence giving them greater control over their accounts directly from their mobile application.
    • Mastercard® Identity Check™Mobile, which enables the use of biometric identifiers such as fingerprints and iris or face recognition which authenticates identity from a mobile device during online purchases and banking transactions. This authentication solution—in line with the
EU’s Revised Payment Service Directive (PSD2)—is due to replace sms One Time Password (OTP).

These two solutions will be implemented within the course of two years and will benefit Mastercard Cpay cardholders

Through this collaborative approach, Mastercard will not only help BNP Paribas Personal Finance France meet the requirements of PSD2 but also enhance the user experience. Once again, as the world is undergoing great changes, Mastercard is proving to be a decisive technological partner, offering simple, safe and practical solutions that are tailored to new uses.

At Mastercard, we promote innovation every day! With our pioneering approach paired with our unique solutions, we can ensure—for our partner BNP Paribas Personal Finance France—transactions that are faster, easier, simpler and safer, in line with the new regulatory framework of PSD2. By working together we will bring innovation in the payments industry,’ Eimear Creaven, President, Western Europe, Mastercard.
