Jamaica Country Manager Dalton Fowles Announces Mastercard vision for the island

Kingston, Jamaica. October 15, 2019 – Technology giant Mastercard officially opened its local office in Jamaica, in New Kingston, holding a press conference this morning to announce the milestone for the local market.

"The opening of the Jamaica office is a pivotal demonstration of Mastercard's commitment to the country and the region," stated Dalton Fowles, Mastercard Country Manager for Jamaica. "I am excited at the opportunity to aid our partners, government and regulators achieve financial and digital inclusion on the island.”

Fowles will lead a team focused initially on sales, market development and marketing, soon to be expanded. The professionals based out of Kingston, are tasked with identifying business opportunities and delivering best in class services and support for Mastercard’s local customers.

The main goal is to bring new technologies to the island that will allow Jamaicans to have a seamless and secure experience in both physical and digital commerce.

“Innovation, safety and security are pillars in our ecosystem. We are introducing new, multi-layered technological advancements to personalize the customer experience, foster stronger relationships with local businesses and increase financial inclusion,” stated Fowles. “Our underlying objective is to expand payment acceptance through a more efficient payments infrastructure and reduce the reliance on cash, which generates direct and indirect costs to the economy.”

Innovation is in Mastercard’s DNA, not only in the brand’s products and services but also in the way the company connects with Jamaican cardholders.

Via its own technologies or from the companies Mastercard has acquired over the past few years, the payments giant can provide the most reliable and efficient solutions to its business partners, such as authentication (3DS), tokenization (signature solution MDES), real time payments P2P, P2M, B2B, among others. Additionally, the company provides an array of value added services, consulting and data analytics to address business pain points via Mastercard Advisors.

"Mastercard is steadily and strategically expanding its footprint in the Caribbean," stated Marcelo Tangioni, President of the Caribbean Division. "The opening of the Jamaica office – the third in the Caribbean within one year – is a giant leap in our regional expansion strategy. In the upcoming years, we expect to continue consistently expanding our presence."

This strategic corporate approach provides greater relevance to the Caribbean region while giving the business team greater decision-making power locally in areas like market investment and operation expansion.

This new Jamaica office provides greater proximity to the market and allows Mastercard to streamline its operations, generating more efficiency in its response capacity and attention to its market partners.
