Digitalizing the public purse: The next generation of G2P payments
January 16, 2025In 2024, more than 70 countries worldwide held elections, representing nearly half of the global population. The result? A mix of continuity and change in public administration, yet one universal challenge remained: modernizing and finding efficiencies in the delivery of government services, which can foster economic growth and create more transparency.
Mastercard for Government’s new two-part white paper, “Digitalizing the public purse,” explores how payment flows to and from government can harness digital payments to do just that.
The first paper, “The next generation of G2P payments,” released today, looks at how digitalizing government payments, including welfare, pensions and tax refunds, can serve as an economic multiplier. The second paper, “Transforming government revenue collections,” to be released later this winter, will showcase how public sector finances can be strengthened through the digitalization of revenue collection, such as taxes, fines, fees and other services.
