Mastercard and Fitbit Make On-The-Go Payments a Breeze with Fitbit Pay

October 10, 2018

Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa users now have the choice and peace of mind to make secure tap-and-go payments with Fitbit Pay and Mastercard

Today Mastercard announced that it is partnering with Fitbit (NYSE: FIT), Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) and Krungthai Card (KTC), to launch Fitbit Pay in Thailand.

Health and fitness enthusiasts can immediately add their Mastercard cards to two Fitbit smartwatches, the Fitbit Ionic or Fitbit Versa, and starting November 2018, on the Fitbit Charge 3, the newest tracker. Fitbit Pay, combined with Mastercard’s contactless payments technology, means users can easily and securely pay for products and services simply by tapping their device near a contactless terminal at locally participating merchants and millions of Mastercard acceptance locations globally. The solution is powered by Mastercard’s Digital Enablement Service (MDES) which enables the card to be digitized onto the device and the transaction secured through its tokenization technology. The partnership between Mastercard, Fitbit, SCB and KTC introduces greater convenience and an enhanced payment experience to the digitally savvy and health conscious consumers and underscores the collective commitment to introduce innovative, safe and secure payments technology to develop a cashless society.

Louis Lye, Regional Director, South East Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, Fitbit, said, “We are excited to launch Fitbit Pay with leading financial partners in Thailand. Fitbit Pay will provide consumers with the option of hassle-free contactless payments, which is in line with the Thai government’s efforts to establish a digital economy in the country. It also offers banks an exciting opportunity to engage with their customers in unique ways while supporting them on their health and fitness journeys.”

Ms. Pittaya Vorapanyasakul, Executive Vice President, Credit Card Business, Krungthai Card Public Co. Ltd. said, “KTC is happy to introduce Fitbit Pay for KTC Mastercard cardholders. Fitbit Pay is convenient and safe, and meets the needs of health conscious, modern and tech-savvy consumers. KTC is launching promotions for members, providing five percent cash-back offers for members who make over five transactions per month, per card using their KTC Mastercard credit cards through Fitbit Pay (for spending not exceeding 5,000 Baht/month/card) from October 10, 2018 - December 31, 2018.”

“Mr. Srihanath Lamsam, Executive Vice President, Payments Product Development and Solutions Division, SCB, said, “As a leader in digital lifestyle banking, SCB is focused on innovation, technology, and developing services which create new customer experiences. For the first time in Thailand, people will be able to make contactless payments via Fitbit Pay when they add their SCB Mastercard credit card to the Fitbit Wallet. SCB is confident that the collaboration with Fitbit and Mastercard will meet the needs of our modern, connected and health conscious customers.”

Donald Ong, Country Manager, Thailand and Myanmar, Mastercard, said, “Mastercard is committed to driving the development and wider usage of contactless payments technology in Thailand. Thais are living increasingly connected lifestyles which are changing the way they interact, engage and make transactions. This collaboration between Mastercard, Fitbit, financial institutions and merchants enables Mastercard cardholders to make quick and easy contactless payments on the go domestically and internationally, while still enjoying the highest level of security that protects their personal data and secures their transactions.”

By adding payments capability to Fitbit smartwatches, Mastercard is enabling more people to make secure payments using connected wearable devices.
